Hōhepa is a support service in the Hawke’s Bay for people with intellectual disabilities. These people are full of life, and your job will be to help them reach their potential! We are looking for a Community Participation Facilitator within our adult service. This is a role with a focus on facilitating community participation. The aim is to enable all people we support to gain as much independence and community connections outside Hōhepa as they wish.

Your role will be to make connections with workplaces, community groups and individuals who would be willing to enable our people to participate with them or their group – for work experience, social interaction, and leisure activities. 

To be successful all you really need is a full clean driver’s licence, be prepared to drive a variety of Hohepa vehicles, a wide range of interests and the right attitude! We will also be looking for the following:

  • Experience of working with people with an intellectual disability; understanding and empathy for people with disabilities/special needs.
  • Has a variety of life and work skills; with experience in ‘teaching’ (which may be formal or informal, tutoring adults etc.).
  • Able to manage own workload effectively. 
  • Willingness to support and engage with the community life of Hohepa.
  • In good health, and able to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • Commitment to collaborative working, resolving problems, being a good team player.

The job is based in Clive and will require frequent and regular travel in the local area (Hastings, Havelock North, Napier etc.).

This is a full-time position (37.5 hours), and work will normally be during the Monday to Friday working week, but flexibility is required, including some evening and weekend work.
